Nov 8: Beading Embroidery - Creating a Talisman with Kadi Flory
Beading Embroidery - Creating a Talisman
In this workshop, hand-dyed fabric generously donated by artist Cara gets a second chapter: cut into small talisman bags for patients to bead embroider using traditional techniques, stitch by stitch, bead by bead. A quiet reminder that nothing here goes to waste and that healing, like craft, often happens slowly, with our hands.
Your Teacher:
Kadi Flory is a multidisciplinary artist and maker whose practice spans studio art, fashion, and textiles, with a focus on bead embroidery.
Born in Sierra Leone during the country's civil war, Kadi was adopted at age seven into an American family, where her interest in the arts took root. That curiosity led her to the Savannah College of Art and Design, where she earned a BFA in Fibers in 2019.
The Fifth Room
This workshop is a part of The Fifth Room workshop series co - created by Krystal Frame of Sustain Frame and Cara bringing together instructors, artists, and community to explore transforming grief through ritual and craft-based practices.
Drawing on John Coltrane's The Coltrane Circle, the mathematics of jazz, and Five Element theory, the series explores the alchemical theme of Solve et Coagula — to dissolve and reform. We believe grief works in a spiral, leading us through transformation but never quite back to the place where we started.
